The future involves dilemmas, no matter which path we take.
This study compared the effect of three population scenarios on infrastructure, resource and environmental issues out to the year 2050. A CSIRO report by Barney Foran and Franzi Poldy, Resource Futures Program, CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems.

Future Dilemmas - options to 2050 fior Australia's population, technology,
resources and environment.

The world is crying out for new vision and hope. This lens of the Commons, with it's ancient beginnings and its infinite possibilities, could provide that vision and hope as well as a way forward in these precarious times.
Maude Barlow, Senior Adviser to the United Nations on water:

Water as a Commons

Just when we need to magically increase productivity, the very land we rely on is under threat. This report by John Williams and Fiona McKenzie of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists discusses the challenges we face in an era of less water, exploding populations and damaged environments.

Food versus the environment - and the winner is?

Would it make sense to impose a cap on urban water users? What would happen if city planners were not allowed to grant building approval for a house, factory or shop until adequate water had either been secured or the applicant had made arrangements to off-set the impact of their proposed development on all other water users and the city’s environment?
Mike Young and Jim McColl explore urban water security.

Water-security: Should urban water use, like rural water use, be capped?

Organisations and Groups

The Australian Water Network will expose and challenge Government water policies which are failing to serve the common good; and promote ideas and strategies more likely to secure a sustainable water future.
Maude Barlow, Senior Advisor on Water to the President of the UN General Assembly is the group's patron. Maude spoke at the Launch: Consecutive governments, both Federal and State, have yet to recognise and respond to the Australian water crisis with a cohesive plan. They rely on the false gods of private markets and energy guzzling technologies as the crisis deepens into a national emergency. The Australian Water Network will fight for the public control of water. We will do all in our power to ensure water-flows for threatened ecosystems. This new voice in Australia will turn the tide on the water crisis.
